About
Per HernholmI grew up in a small village (Fyresdal) in the Telemark region of Norway. My love and appreciation for nature was developed early in my childhood living and hiking in Fyresdal’s and Telemark’s beautiful surroundings.
I came to California at the age of 22 to study at Brook’s Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara. There were many temptations for a young man and I soon discovered that I could not afford a private school. Being broke and without an education I could not return to Norway. After two years of heavy labor I decided to go to civil engineering school. However, my love for photography never died. For a while photography competed with a passion for coaching soccer, but over the last 15 years photography has become my main interest.
I photograph with equipment ranging from 35mm to 4x5 cameras.
My work is collected by many and is displayed in professional institutions. I have had several gallery exhibits. I presently conduct photo workshops for Joe Englander’s Landscape and Travel Photography as well as holding the position of Project Director of a large civil engineering firm.
